Sooooo happy with the way this turned out! I especially had fun with the hair - drawing it, coloring it, and then adding that teeny tiny little texture. Drew this in OC with my tablet, ported to Photoshop to outline, moved back to OC to color, then to Photoshop again to touch some stuff up. (Desaturated a bit, added some contrast to make the hair look nicer. You can barely tell the difference.) Anyway, I used colored lines with a kind of gradient, and I like how it turned out! My one problem is that I still suck at shading the color yellow...and coloring when using colored lines is a pain. The good news is: I traced nothing, not even fingers. I feel I now have merit as an Artist.
Anyway, this Captain Faris, from Final Fantasy V. Possibly my favorite game in the series (not counting XI), and most definitely my favorite character from the game. Faris is a badass crossdressing pirate captain who disguises herself as a male and makes everyone in the game question their sexuality. She's more manly than half the crew, anyway.
My reference is an incredibly cool photograph by DandyStock: [link] What makes this so completely awesome is that the costume here loosely based off Jacky Faber, another badass crossdressing pirate from L.A. Meyer's "Bloody Jack" series. I love those books and the reference is a very nice photo, so you should go take a look.
I like this version even better! You did such a great job coloring it! Whenever I try to color something, it comes out like a big pile of coloring-book mush. I like the effect of the colored line art, but I can definitely see how that would be hard on the coloring. You pulled it off though.
but I still miss the version with the big jugs. : x
I appreciate your comments, it's really nice to hear from you ^^
